HOUSTON HAIR named “LDA Player of the Month”
… HOUSE OF FORGED was honored this past week when Canadian Houston Hair was named as the Long Drive Association’s “Player of the Month” based upon his victory at the recent “Tennessee Shootout” LDA tour long-drive event. HOUSTON HAIR wins LDA “Tennessee Shootout”
… Our congratulations go out to Houston Hair of Vancouver, B.C. who won the LDA Tour’s “Tennessee Shootout” this weekend using a House of Forged shaft. Although new to the LDA community, Houston got everyone’s notice when he qualified for world’s last October at the Last Chance qualifier, and then he followed with a Top 24 performance. HOUSE OF FORGED shafts were well represented at this long-drive tour event with 7-of-the-top-16 finalists using House of Forged shafts; including: Landon Gentry/5th, Kyle Blakely/6th, Ryan Winter/7th, Jeff Crittenden/10th, Dustin Merrill/11th, Clay Lanigan/13th, and Brad McAnally/15th. Ryan Winther also earned $500.00/prize money with his HOF shaft for his 415-yard blast. Congrats to the LDA, and especially to Bart Hartsell for running this outstanding long-drive event, which is now in its 11th year.

OWEN HANSON wins “HOF Shootout”
… Former RE/MAX Junior World Long-Drive Champion Owen Hanson continued his winning ways on California turf by winning the HOF Shootout, which was held this past weekend at the Mid-Hill Golf Center in Corona, CA with a monster 407-yard drive. HOUSE OF FORGED shafts were well represented at this event with 4-of-the-top-6 finalists using HOF shafts to include: Owen Hanson/1st, Geoff Olahan/2nd, Dan Luczak/5th, and Simon Birrell/6th. Thanks to the guys at Mid-Hill Golf Center for building a great long-drive grid, and thanks to Jack Doherty and the ALDA for hosting yet another great long-drive event.

RYAN WINTHER wins “San Diego Match-Play Tourney”
Owen Hanson & David Headley tie for 3rd Place
… HOUSE OF FORGED was well-represented at the ‘San Diego Match Play Championship,” which was hosted by the Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, CA. Using his brand-new custom House of Forged/HD Prototlite “Ryan Winther” long-drive shafts (which honor Ryan’s grid-record 469-yard drive at the Last Chance Qualifier in Mesquite last November), Ryan uncorked several 390-yard plus drives to beat Owen Hanson in the Semi-Finals, and then beat Sean Malone in the Finals. David Headley tied with Owen Hanson for 3rd place with each of those three competitors using House of Forged shafts. Thanks to Dave Buckles of making the arrangements for the grid, and thanks to Salt Creek for hosting the event.

STEVE “Maganimal” MAGAN wins “Heartland Classic”
Dustin Merrill takes 2nd Place.
… The Maganimal (Steve Magan) finally came out of hibernation, and he used a manly one-inch tip-cut cut HD Prototype (XXX)-flex long-drive shaft to (in his words) crush the field in the afternoon session of the Heartland Classic long-drive tournament, which was held in Decatur, IL. The “De-Merrillizer” Dustin Merrill took a solid 2nd Place, while also using a House of Forged long-drive shaft. Thanks to Sam Turner for hosting the event.

… HOUSE OF FORGED was well-represented at the LDA Tour’s rainy “Texas Shootout” event, as 2007 RE/MAX World Long Drive Champion Mike Dobbyn continued his hot run in 2011 LDA Tour events by taking 2nd Place, losing to Kevin Shook in the Finals. Jon Bjelland tied for 3rd Place, thus gaining a nice paycheck as well as an exemption to the World Championships, while Maurice Allen continued his rise in the ranks by gaining a tie for 5th Place, and gaining his exemption. A group of HOUSE OF FORGED-shafted hitters filled out the top bracket with Cody Bryant, Patrick Hopper, Mike Carlson, and Jeff Crittenden tying for 9th Place with Cody getting his exemption to World’s = all three exemptions to the World
Championships went to competitors who were using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts.

OWEN HANSON wins “April Extravaganza”
as Alex Devilling & David Hedley tie for 3rd Place.
… Owen Hanson used an HOF HD Prototype long-drive shaft to bomb a set of monster drives in the mid 380s to narrowly beat a red-hot Brennen Truax in one of the most exciting local long-drive events in years, which featured a match-play format at the Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, CA. Alex Devilling and David Hedley were also using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts to gain their tie for 3rd Place. A special thanks goes out to Salt Creek, as well as to Dave Buckles and Keith McGwire for helping to host and run this event.

LANDON GENTRY wins the “Masters of Long Drive”
as House of Forged takes 1/2/3/4th Places
… The unstoppable Landon Gentry took home yet another first place winner’s check at the second of two long-drive events in Georgia by beating Jason Eslinger in the finals of the “Masters of Long Drive.” These top two competitors were using the new HOF Prototype shafts, and a total of (14) of the top (16) competitors used House of Forged shafts with Dustin Merrill taking 3rd Place, Jeff Crittenden taking 4th Place, Andrew Clark taking 6th Place, and Clay Lanigan taking 8th Place. Congratulations go out to Scott Chandler of MOI Golf, Tyler Hagemann of American Power Golf, and Matt Moree who were involved in hosting and publicizing the event, which took place at the Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.

… Patrick Hopper followed his 8th Place finish at the Re/MAX World Long-Drive Championship last November by winning the “Cherokee Long-Drive” event in Cedartown, Georgia. Patrick used a House of Forged Patriot-Ultralight shaft, while all of the other top five finishers also used HOF shafts; including: Landon Gentry/2nd, Jeff Crittenden/3rd, Jason Eslinger/4th, and Dustin Merrill/5th Places. LANDON GENTRY named as the “LDA Player of the Month”

… LANDON GENTRY is a
man-on-mission. After making the TV Round Finals at the 2010 RE/MAX World
Championships, and just missing the quarterfinals, while taking 5th
Place, Landon followed by taking 2nd Place at the LDA’s Mesquite
Shootout event in March 2011, and he followed this past weekend by winning
the LDA Tour’s “Alligator Alley” event at Coral
Springs in his home state of Florida using a HOUSE OF FORGED HD Prototype
shaft.
RYAN WINTER continues to move up the charts. Following his 9th Place finish at World’s, Ryan took 3rd Place at the earlier Mesquite Shootout, and he took home 2nd Place money at this event, while using a HOUSE OF FORGED Patriot-Ultralight shaft.
JEFF CRITTENDEN had a bad foot, but you can’t keep a good man down, as the “Check-Casher” took a solid 3rd Place at this event while using HOUSE OF FORGED HD Prototype shafts.
MIKE CARLSON got the exemption to World’s from this event, while also using a HOUSE OF FORGED shaft.

RYAN LOUW wins “March Mayhem” long-drive event.
… Our congratulations go out to South African sensation, who followed his 4th Place finish at the 2010 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships by winning this independent event, which featured several Top 10 long-drive competitors; including, Ryan Winther. Ryan was using the HD Prototype long-drive shafts. Aaron David of Palm Springs California used a Patriot-Ultralight shaft to take 4th Place.

MIKE DOBBYN named as the “LDA Player of the Month”

… Congratulations go out to the big-guy, Mike Dobbyn, who found his way back to the winners circle in an outstanding effort to beat top LDA competitors and win the 2011 Mesquite Shootout LDA Tour event using an HD Prototype shaft. Landon Gentry took 2nd Place using that same shaft, while Ryan Winther took 3rd Place using a Patriot-Ultralight shaft. Patrick Hopper and Charlie Hamrick tied for 5th Place with this finish gaining Charlie his exemption to the 2011 World Championships.

DUSTIN MERRILL wins Desert Launch

… The “DE-MERRILIZER” is back. Our congratulations go out to Dustin Merrill who started off the year with a bang, but winning the LDA’s first event of the year, the “Desert Duel” by besting a slew of HOUSE OF FORGED shafted competitors who filled-up 8-of-the-top-9 spots.
Like Dustin, Jeff Crittenden and Josh Matties got their tickets punched for the the 2011 Re/MAX World Long-Drive Championships, while newcomer Ryan Cooper from Seattle gave a great performance to gain 4th Place. Charlie Hamrick, Aaron Davis, and C.J. Hellstrom of Sweden also used HOUSE OF FORGED shafts to fill out Top 9 spots.

“JAMIE SADLOWSKI crushes PGA pros in long-drive event at Hyundai Tournament of Champions”
… The festivities for the FEDEX Kick-off event before the Hyundai Tournament of Champions offered an opportunity for two-time RE/MAX World Long-Drive Champion Jamie Sadlowski to square-off in a long-drive contest against top PGA pros Robert Garrigas, Dustin Johnson, and Bubba Watson. In that competition, which was televised on the GOLF CHANNEL, Jamie made the finals, and then he destroyed Bubba Watson by an average of 57-yards-per-drive hitting drives 402-396-407-yards, while Bubba’s drives were measured at 334-352-347/yards. It is noted that Jamie hit all of his drives with HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and his first (winning) ball in the finals was hit with a stock 45” driver, which was fitted with a standard Jamie Sadlowski signature series XX-shaft.

“16-year-old Domenic Mazza takes 2nd Place”
… The 16-year-old sensation from Concord California, Domenic Mazza, followed being the youngest-ever competitor to qualify for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships to becoming the youngest-ever TV Finalist. Domenic went all the way to the finals where he was finally defeated by champion Joe Miller, ending an incredible run. We are honored that Domenic was using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts during the competition, and we congratulate him on a wonderful performance.
“Jamie Sadlowski takes 3rd Place”
… Following two-straight RE/MAX World Long-Drive Championship victories, Jamie was the favorite to win the championship for a third straight year; however, Joe Miller from England defeated Jamie in the semi-finals, and Jamie had to settle for 3rd Place finish. We are honored that Jamie was exclusively using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate him on yet another fine performance.
“Ryan Louw takes 4th Place”
… In 2009 the remarkable young South African came out of nowhere to take 5th Place at the RE/MAX World Long-Drive Championships, and this year Ryan was determined to go all the way. While he had the longest ball in the quarterfinals to get the #1 seed, he lost in the semifinals to young Domenic Mazza when he couldn’t get a ball in-play. We are honored that Ryan was exclusively using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate him on a wonderful performance.
“Landon Gentry takes 5th Place”
… Following an outstanding year at various LDA Tour events, as well as independent events, Landon was a man-on-a-mission, not only to make the TV Finals round, but also to go-all-the-way to win the championship. After making the TV Final round of eight competitors, Landon just missed making the final four semi-final round when his drives of 399-yards and 400-yards were a couple of yards short. We are honored that Landon was using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate him on a fine performance.
“Jerimie Montgomery takes 7th Place”
… In 2009 Jerimie Montgomery made it all the way to 2nd Place before being beaten in the finals by champion Jamie Sadlowski. In 2010 Jerimie was the only competitor (other than Jamie and Ryan Louw) to make the TV finals for a second year in a row; however, this time Jerimie fell short of his goal when he was unable to hit a big ball in the quarterfinals. We are honored that Jerimie has used HOUSE OF FORGED shafts in his two trips to the TV Finals, and we congratulate him on yet another great performance.
“Patrick Hopper takes 8th Place”
… Patrick made his second trip to the TV Finals, and he just missed the quarterfinals when his 420-yard blast trickled out of bounds by a mere foot. That ball (if in play) not only would have qualified Patrick for the quarterfinals, it would have placed him as the #1 seed. As it turns out, Patrick made a great run only to fall a bit short. We are honored that Patrick was using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate him on a fine performance.
“Ryan Winther takes 9th Place”
… Many people have felt that Ryan had the ability to become the RE/MAX World Long-Drive champion, and he very nearly reached that goal this year just missing the TV Final round. Ryan qualified for World’s at the Last Chance qualifier during the weekend before World’s where he broke the grid record with a 469-yard drive. The ball would have gone further but it hit the cliff face at the back-end of the grid, making it a record-drive, which can never be broken. We are honored that Ryan was using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate him on a wonderful performance.
“PastaMan Vinny Ciurluini takes 2nd Place in Seniors…
Tom Celone takes 3rd, and Paul Swisher takes 8th Place”
… In his first of many trips to the TV Finals many years ago, Vinny Ciurluini promised the fans a pasta dinner if he won the championship. Vinny fell short at that event, but he remains a fan favorite. Two years ago Vinny made the Open Division TV Finals, and this year he made the Senior Division finals, where he was beaten only by champion George Slupski.
… Tom Celone made the TV Finals in the Senior Division where he had a shot against eventual champion George Slupski in the semi-finals, and Paul Swisher also made the TV Finals taking 8th Place. We are honored that Vinny, Tom, and Paul were using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate them on a wonderful performance.
“Bobby Wilson just misses in Super Seniors…
while Nick Herrera and James Decaire make the TV Finals”
… Last year, long-drive legend Bobby Wilson became the first competitor to win two RE/MAX World Long-Drive titles in one year, by winning the Senior and the Super Senior Divisions. This year Bobby came close to following-up with another Super Senior championship, but he along with Nick “The Hammer” Herrera lost by a couple of yards to eventual champion Frank Miller in the finals and semi-finals, respectively. James Decaire of Canada also made the TV Finals round. We are honored that Bobby, Nick, and James were using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts, and we congratulate them on a wonderful performance.
“Miguel Jaime takes 2nd Place in Grand Champions”

“JUSTIN JAMES wins SAN DIEGO SHOOT-OUT"
… Congratulations go out to former RE/MAX (Junior Division) World Long Drive Champion, Justin James who used a House of Forged LT/ low trajectory long-drive shaft to win the SAN DIEGO OPEN long-drive event this weekend at Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, CA. It was a clean-sweep in the finals with Eric “Sneaky-Long” Thomas using an HD Prototype shaft to take 2nd Place, while Alex Devilling and Ryan Winther took 3rd and 4th Places with House of Forged shafts.
“NAYO GARCIA win SAN DIEGO OPEN (Seniors Division)”
… Likewise, congratulations go out to Nayo Garcia who made the trip from Phoenix worthwhile by grabbing the 1st Place Trophy in the Senior Division event using an HD Prototype shaft, and besting Phil “The Power” Naylor (who used the HD Protolite shaft) in the finals. Lynn Ray and Dave Buckles got the 3rd and 4th Place money.

… Newcomer Justin Robinson proved that he may be a force at the world championships next month by besting some of the top long drivers in the SouthEast and winning the GRIP IT AND RIP IT Long Drive event, which was held at the Golf Academy at Heron Creek in North Port, Florida. Justin was used an ALPHA C830/2 Plasma head on an HD Prototype shaft, which was supplied by Neil Simpson of PHOENIX GOLF WORKS.

“Mazza mashes with the best… youngest-ever at World’s hitting HOF”
… HOUSE OF FORGED is apparently the shaft-of-choice for Domenic Mazza, the youngest-ever (at 16) competitor to qualify for the Re/MAX World Long Drive Championships later this month. Domenic was recently featured on an ABC news clip, which shows him hitting bombs with one of our new HD Protolite shafts. Special thanks to John Kikes for getting this nice young man (and our shafts) some well-deserved publicity. If you watch the video below, you might note that Domenic’s swing is reminiscent of another young long-driver who has achieved a moderate amount of success in this sport.

HOUSE OF FORGED dominates "International Long Drive Challenge"
… HOUSE OF FORGED shafts dominated the 2010 International Long Drive Challenge this past week, which was held at the Cinnamon Hill Golf & Country Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Lumar Fourie captured 1st Place in that competition with Chris Mason taking 2nd Place, and Sidney Venter taking 3rd Place. All three of these competitors were using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts. In addition, Wesley Bennett hit the longest drive of the competition, while using a HOUSE OF FORGED shaft.
We were further honored when our South African Distributor, Quantum Driving, captured 1st Place in the team competition. Our congratulations go out to Gerhard Coetzee along with all of the members of the Quantum Driving long drive team.

JEFF CRITTENDEN wins September Slam (2nd Session)
… Congratulations go out to Jeff Crittenden, who took 1st Place in the 2nd Session of the SEPTEMBER SLAM long-drive event this weekend in Fayetteville, North Carolina with Clay Lanigan taking 2nd Place. Both competitors were using HOUSE OF FORGED shafts. This win along with Landon Gentry’s win in the first session of the event gave HOUSE OF FORGED a clean sweep. … Congratulations to Iiro Savinko of Finland who won the European Open of Long Drive in Lund, Sweden this weekend using an HOF HD Prototype shaft, and earned a spot at the 2010 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships. Jimmy Olsson of Sweden also qualified for World’s by taking 4th Place with an HOF Ultra shaft…. This was a clean sweep for HOUSE OF FORGED shafts as Johan “The Kid” Tumba won the Senior Division with Tony Nilsson coming in 2nd Place (using HD Prototype shafts), while Sandra “The Great” Carlborg won the Women’s title with a stock Patriot shaft, while Helena Rhodin and Maria Svenson used HOF shafts to take 2nd and 3rd Places... JASON ESLINGER wins LDA's Desert Duel tour event
… Congratulations goes out to Jason Eslinger who won the LDA’s Desert Duel tour event at Mesquite, NV. It was an all HOF finale as Jason Eslinger got the victory, Jon Bjelland took 2nd Place, Josh Matthies took 4th Place, Jerimie Montgomery and Jeff Gavin tied for 5th Place, and Tyler Kellett, Jason Witczak, Tom Roskos, and Allen McDougall tied for 7th Place (all using HOF shafts). This was the first test of the new HD Prototype shaft, which proved to be a winner with Eslinger, Bjelland, Gavin, Kellett, and Roskos all using the new shaft with success.

ALEX DEVILLING wins San Diego Long-Drive Open
… Our congratulations go out to Alex Devilling who won the first annual San Diego Long-Drive Open tournament at the Salt Creek Golf Club in Chula Vista, CA using HOF’s “JS” signature shafts. Aside from winning the First Prize money, Alex also pocketed another $100.00, which was donated by Steve Almo of GEEK Golf for the longest drive of the day (a 394-yard bomb). Owen Hanson took 2nd Place and C.J. Lazar tied for 3rd Place with both of them using the new HD Prototype shafts. Special thanks to Dave Buckles for his help, as well as to the Salt Creek Golf Club for allowing Smash Factor Golf to host this event.

KYLE BLAKELY wins the LDA's Tennessee Shoot-out tour event
… Congratulations to Kyle Blakely who won the the LDA’s TENNESSEE SHOOT-OUT tour event, while using a House of Forged shaft. Kyle began the competition using the shaft of a competitor shaft company; however, in the finals Kyle grabbed an HOF-shafted ADAMS driver from fellow competitor Jason Eslinger, and banged a monster 400+ yard ball and get the win. Congrats to Kyle, and thanks to Jason for loaning him that shaft, which Kyle merely describes on the LDA website as being a “special” shaft = very special indeed.

JEFF CRITTENDEN wins Cabo San Lucas Classic
… Jeff Crittenden won the $20,000.00 1st Place prize money at the inaugural ”ICOLD Cabo San Lucas Classic” long drive event, using a House of Forged shaft with a MOI driver head, while Hall of Famer and Senior/ Super Senior Division World Long Drive Champion Bobby Wilson bested most of the top Open Division competitors to take 4th Place. Bobby was previewing our new “HD Prototype” long-drive shaft… Jason Eslinger, Tom Roskos, Mike Carlson, and Jon Bjelland also used House of Forged shafts to cash winner’s checks at this inaugural event.

… Congratulations to Mikko Pirinnen of Finland, who used a House of Forged shaft and a KRANK driver head to beat many of the top European long-drive competitors, while winning the ”Paris Long Drive Championship” that was held at the Paris Golf and Country Club. John McSloy of Scotland took 2nd Place at the competition.

… Our congratulations go out to Mike Carlson (now of Dallas, Texas) who was named by THUNDERBALL C.E.O. Colin McDougal as having taken First Place (using a House of Forged shaft) in the Indoor Qualifying for the THUNDERBALL finals, which will be held in LasVegas, Nevada in august 2010. Since qualifying for this event was held in the USA, Canada, Europe and other countries, and since many former World Championship TV Fimalists were competing in this event, this is a nice honor for Mike.

CRAIG GRIGSON wins Round-6 of Australian Long Drive Tour
… House of Forged shafts were just introduced by Jason Gruber of Gruber’s Golf to our Australian buddies a few days before Round Six of the Re/MAX World Long Drive Championship Australian Tour; however, they had an immediate impact with Craig “The Animal” Grigson using a House of Forged shaft with an ADAMS head to take 1st Place in the Open Division competition with HOF/ADAMS taking 1st, 2nd and 5th Places in Open, while HOF/ADAMS also took 1st, 2nd 3rd, 4th Places in the Senior Division, as well as 1st Place in the Super Senior Division. It is great to see our mates in OZ enjoying success with our shafts, and many thanks to Jason Gruber for getting us into the mix Down-Under.

HOUSE OF FORGED sweeps Sweden Long Drive Championship
… House of Forged shafts completely dominated the “2010 Sweden Long Drive Championship” with Peter Carlborg winning the Open Division title, while Johan Tumba won the Senior Division, and Roland Andersson won the Super Senior Division. Reigning ILWU Women’s Long Drive Champion Sandra Carlborg won the Ladies Division. All of these competitors were using GEEK driver heads and House of Forged shafts.

JAMIE SADLOWSKI wins LDA's Texas Shoot-out tour event
… RE/MAX LDA World Long Drive Champion Jamie Sadlowski won the LDA’s “2010 Texas Shootout” Open Division competition, while using his signature House of Forged shaft with an ADAMS head. House of Forged shafts dominated the Open Division finals with Tom Roskos, Jason Eslinger, Patrick Hopper, and Alex Devilling taking 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and a 5th Place (tie).
.… In the Senior Division finals it was more-of-the-same with Vinny “Pasta Man” Ciurluini using an ALPHA driver head to get the victory over Hall of Famer and reigning Senior/Super Senior Champion Bobby Wilson. Fred Trigg also used a House of Forged shaft to garner a tie for 3rd Place.

… Long Drivers of America’s first 2010 LDA Tour Event,the “Desert Launch,” in Mesquite, NV proved to be a launching-pad for House of Forged shafts with Jason Eslinger using an ADAMS head to get the win, beating Kevin Shook in the finals who also malso a House of Forged shaft, while Jon Bjelland used a House of Forged shaft to tie for 3rd Place.
… In the Senior Division finals House of Forged shafts also dominated, as the “Pasta Man” Vinny Ciurluini used an ALPHA driver head to best Tony Nilsson of Sweden to get the victory.

CJ HELLSTROM wins LDA's Diamond-in-the-Desert
… The long break from the October 2009 World Championships ended with long-drivers coming from around the world to try and qualify for the 2010 RE/MAX LDA World Championships at this local/regional “Diamond-in-the-Desert” long-drive competition. House of Forged shafts got the year started in fine form with Carl Johan Hellstrom from Sweden using a House of Forged shaft with an ALPHA driver head to capture 1st Place honors, beating “The de-Merrill-izer” Dustin Merrill with Charlie Hamrick also using a House of Forged shaft to take 5th Place in the competition and secure a berth at the 2010 World Championships.

BOBBY WILSON wins two RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship divisions
… Bobby Wilson became the first long-driver to win world championships in two divisions by claiming both the 2009 RE/MAX LDA (Senior & Super Senior) Long Drive Championship titles (using a House of Forged shaft and an ADAMS driver head).
